The Civic Leadership Scholarship is aimed toward individuals who are looking to make a change within their communities. We are looking for leaders who will want to play an active role to become Civic innovators and active citizens within the UVSA community. In an environment where many other prejudices run rampant in our country, It is important to encourage all of us to take action and use our voices to challenge harmful, ingrained cultural and societal norms, spread awareness of issues, and to fight for a more equitable and just society. Our Mission is to develop Civic leaders that’ll play a part in keeping our communities informed of current events in a politically neutral way, to provide opportunities for our communities to voice their opinions, and to develop a community of active citizens. Now, more than ever, our voices are needed to create progressive changes that this nation strives for and that starts with keeping all of us civically engaged. The catalyst of change and progress falls into the power of the first follower after, thus creating a chain reaction. Change, however, does not come from a “follow the leader” method. It comes from the passion behind the cause. As Civic leaders we want to inspire the discovery of passion in others. By personally reaching out to individuals, understanding their background and listening to their needs, fostering the development of a foundation of trust and through that, that allow all of us the opportunity to grow and ignite our own passion into others. The voice of one is powerful, but the voice of many, together and united, is monumental.
