MK Nguyen

MK Nguyen is a Frogtown-based Viet mother, daughter of small business owners/refugee resettlement workers, and transformative resistor.  She studied Critical Studies of Race and Ethnicity at Saint Catherine University and Equity and Social Justice in Education at San Francisco State University. Since 2003, she’s been incubating her skills as an organizer in St. Paul, MN, Bay Area, CA and New Orleans, LA. In 2014, she returned home to the Twin Cities, with her husband, Thaiphy, and two canine children, Tator and Rowley, to be closer to family. She spends most of my time mothering, consolidating a network of academic and social/emotional supports for young people in the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood, recovering cultural knowledge production of Vietnamese freedom fighters, and support local and national movement building. Her heart moves a lot faster than her brain, which leads her  to surround herself with loving, thoughtful people who will eat her cooking and help her articulate into words the knowledge she stores in her heart. Like her inspiration, Dream Hampton, MK has been travelling across different spaces,  asking herself and the people around her, “What is your post-apocalyptic skill?”
